Reasoning about Triggered Scenarios in Logic Programming

چکیده
This paper presents a logic programming approach, based on the Event Calculus (EC), for representing and reasoning about triggered scenarios (TS), an expressive dialect of message sequence charts widely employed in software requirements engineering to specify system behaviour. We introduce a sound translation for triggered scenarios into an EC-based Answer Set Programming (ASP) representation, and demonstrate how this formalisation allows for the use of ASP as an alternative verification method capable of overcoming known limitations of current TS analysis methods.

A Logic Approach to Modeling Nomenclatural Change
— We utilize an Answer Set Programming (ASP) approach to show that the principles of nomenclature are tractable in computational logic. To this end we design a hypothetical, 20 nomenclatural taxon use case with starting conditions that embody several overarching principles of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature; including Binomial Nomenclature, Priority, Coordination, Homonymy, Ty...

Requirements Engineering involves the elicitation of highlevel stakeholder goals and their refinement into operational system requirements. A key difficulty is that stakeholders typically convey their goals indirectly through intuitive narrative-style scenarios of desirable and undesirable system behaviour, whereas goal refinement methods usually require goals to be expressed declaratively usin...
متن کاملAgainst All Odds: When Logic Meets Probability
This paper is a light walk along interfaces between logic and probability, triggered by a chance encounter with Ed Brinksma. It is not a research paper, or a literature survey, but a pointer to issues. I discuss both direct combinations of logic and probability and structured ways in which logic can be seen as a qualitative version of probability theory. I end by sketching a concrete program fo...
متن کاملA Methodology for Knowledge Representation in Defeasible Logic Programming∗
Humans have always been intrigued by their ability to reason. We have constantly attempted to emulate this process, trying almost everything, from physiological explanations, to sociological accounts. The approach with possibly the longest tradition conceives this process as a mere manipulation of symbols. Yet, symbolic reasoning cannot be applied directly over the problem at hand: we require t...
